“An old man raises his hands in gratitude after he’s handed over a 20-liter container of water,” Says Ahvaz-based photographer Morteza Yaghouti, who took this photo in Ahvaz’s oil-rich Gheyzanieh district. “Gheyzanieh is one of the areas which has faced water issues for years. Its people have severe difficulties in having access to their needed water,” he says. The area faced a brutal crackdown in May, after protesting against the government’s inability to provide enough water to the roughly 25,000 people who live in 85 Gheyzanieh villages. The area currently relies on volunteers and charity entities for its water, Yaghouti says.
یک پیر مرد پس از اینکه یک خیّر به او بشکه 20لیتری آب رسانده است در حال شکرگزاری است. مرتضی یاقوتی، عکاس ساکن اهواز این عکس را در منطقه‌ی نفت‌خیز غیزانیه گرفته است. منطقه غیزانیه اهواز یکی از مناطقی است که سال‌ها با مشکل آب مواجه است و مردمان آن در تامین آب به شدت مشکل دارند. ماه گذشته، تظاهرات مردم این منطقه در اعتراض به عدم توانایی دولت در تامین آب آشامیدنی با سرکوب مواجه شد. حدود بیست و پنج هزار نفر در 85 روستای غیزانیه زندگی میکنند. این منطقه اکنون برای تامین آب به خیرین و نهادهای خیریه متکی است.
