“Around 70 years ago, nearly all of the people in the Qashqai tribe were migrants. But now there is only a small percent of us still following our ancestors’ way of life. One characteristic of our lifestyle is that we earn a living through animal husbandry (i.e. sheep goats). However due to weak governmental settlement programs the Qashqai nomads were never able to transition into professional farming. Instead, we have been pigeon-holed as good shepherds… According to researchers, the Qashqai tribe is one the most colorful in Iran. But one should not forget that behind the colors lies centuries of hardship and suffering.” – Ali “Qashqai,” an active and beloved member of the #SeeYouinIran Facebook group
