“It was as though she waited for years for me to get there so she could speak to me,” says photographer Farhad Abbasi, who is based in Jolfa, East Azarbaijan Province. “She spoke about he abandoned village and her loneliness; that her son was doing his military service and her husband was herding sheep in neighboring villages. All she hoped for was for her son to come back and end her loneliness.” It is a village whose residents mostly fled for the fear of an earthquake, he says, describing East Azarbaijan’s Varzaghan village, where he visited two years ago and came back to this summer. The village was roughly at the epicenter of a magnitude 6.4 quake that killed 306 people and injured thousands in 2012. “She was suffering kidney failure too and had to go through dialysis. The dark skin on her hands was caused by her disease,” the photographer describes. “A while ago, when I travelled to the village for the second time, I figured her son had passed after finishing his military service.”
«انگار سال‌ها منتظر بود که من بیام تا با من حرف بزنه.» این را فرهاد عباسی، عکاس ساکن جلفا در آذربایجان شرقی میگوید. «شروع کرد به گفتن از وضعیت روستای ترک شده و تنهایی‌هاش و اینکه پسرش سربازه و شوهرش تو روستاهای اطراف چوپانی میکنه. همه امیدش این بود که پسرش از سربازی برگرده تا از این تنهایی دربیاد.» این روستایی است که به گفته‌ی او بیشتر ساکنینش بدلیل ترس از زمین‌لرزه آن را ترک کرده‌اند؛ روستای ورزقان در همین استان که او دوسال پیش به آن سفر کرده بود و تابستان امسال برای سفری کوتاه به آن بازگشت. ورزقان به طور تقریبی در مرکز زلزله‌ای 6.4 ریشتری سال 1391 بود که منجر به مرگ 306 نفر و زخمی شدن هزاران نفر شد. عکاس اضافه میکند: «متوجه شدم که نارسایی کلیوی هم داره و مجبوره گاه برای دیالیز اقدام کنه. سیاهی دستاش بخاطر بیماریش بود. چند وقت پیش که برای بار دوم به این روستا رفتم، فهمیدم پسرش بعد از برگشتن از سربازی فوت کرده.»
