Here is an image of “people who spend their lives in hardship and poverty,” says photographer Hamed Rahmati. “The village has been declared unsafe by provincial authorities. The residents of the village have abandoned their old dwellings in the depth of the mountains to build with great endeavor new houses on the side of the road. Those who cannot afford building new places are trying to reinforce their old ones with cement to prevent a collapse of the ceiling in case of heavy rain and snow.” The old village is prone to floods. Hills in the vicinity, scarred with zinc and lead diggings, also imply that the traditionally-built houses could at some point turn into debris.
“The houses are traditionally built with clay and straw, relying on poles of wood. It’s a weak foundation in case the hard winter cracks its whip,” says the Zanjan-based photographer. “These men do not want to surrender. This would be against the teachings of their ancestors: you should stand against the cold winter, gazing at the calendar in hopes of seeing the arrival of the spring.”
این تصویری است از «مردمانی که در اعماق ویرانی با تنگ‌دستی روزگار می گذرانند.» این گفته‌ی حامد رحمتی عکاس ساکن زنجان است. «موقعیت روستا توسط مقامات استانی خطرناک گزارش شده. اهالی با همتی درخور و خودجوش از اعماق کوه‌ها بیرون آمده‌اند و در کنار جاده خانه‌های نو می‌سازند. برخی از ساکنان توانایی ساخت خانه را ندارند و خانه‌هایشان را با سیمان در برابر سرما مقاوم می سازند تا سقف بر سرشان آوار نشود.» روستای قدیمی در خطر سیل قرار دارد و تپه‌های همسایه که با حفره‌های معادن روی و مس زخم شده‌اند از خطر احتمالی ریزش آوار در خانه‌هایی که به صورت سنتی ساخته شده‌اند، خبر میدهند.
عکاس میگوید: «خانه‌های کاه‌گلی با ستون‌های چوبی بسیار نحیف‌اند. زمستان آمده و تازیانه‌اش را بر زمین می کوبد. مردان نمی خواهند در برابر سرما زانو بزنند، زیرا این آموزه‌ی تاریخی و اجدادی آنهاست؛ باید در برابر زمستان ایستاد و به شوق آمدن بهار به تقویم چشم دوخت.»
