Bahman Sadeghi’s “Death’s Horn” collection of photographs shows Iranian passersby, either not wearing facemasks or wearing them loosely; walking against the backdrop of a graffiti of men blowing in horns. “I suppose there are still people who do not hear the sound of the death’s horn!” says the Tehran-based photographer. “Amid mounting concerns over a fresh wave of the pandemic, still some people fail to fulfill their social responsibility by wearing facemasks,” he says. On October 7, Iran hit its highest number of daily deaths from the coronavirus, with 239 new fatalities reported. Authorities have been warning for days of severe shortages of hospital beds. The total number of fatalities has now topped 28,000 in the Middle East’s hardest hit country. “Wearing a mask is the most basic measure to ensure the health of the individual as well as the society,” the photographer says.
