“I took this photo in Hormuz; a strange and beautiful island that is relatively known to the world nowadays, thanks to, or regrettably because of, social media,” says photographer Navid Faramarznejad. “Despite the island’s indescribable beauty, its people do not have a proper state of livelihood.” Having been unable to fish, its population now relies mostly on tourism, he says. There have been rounds of public outcry over Chinese trawlers’ presence in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Fishermen and environmentalists have warned that Chinese boats harm traditional fishing alongside the population of diverse species of fish and seabed corals.
As the voices of complaint got louder, authorities said they banned the presence of Chinese trawlers in the southern waters. Now, as travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic intensify, it remains to be seen whether locals in Hormuz have been able to rely again on fishing to make a living. The photographer says he talked to a fisherman who had had trouble bringing fish to his family for months.
«این عكس رو تو هرمز ثبت كردم؛ هرمز، جزیره‌ای بسیار عجیب و زیبا، كه این روزها به لطف یا عنف شبكه‌های اجتماعی بیشتر بین مردمان جهان شناخته شده.» این گفته‌ی نوید فرامرزنژاد، عکاس این عکس است. او میگوید: «با وجود زیبایی‌های غیرقابل توصیف این جزیره، ساكنینش وضعیت معیشتی مناسبی ندارند.» به گفته‌ی عکاس، در غیاب ماهیگیری که روزگاری مجرای اصلی ارتزاق ساکنین این منطقه بود؛ در سالهای اخیر، اقتصاد این جزیره بیشتر به سمت گردشگری گرایش پیدا کرده است. در سالهای گذشته، اعتراضات گسترده‌ی بسیاری به حضور کشتی‌های چینی صید ترال در خلیج فارس و دریای عمان شده است. ماهیگیران مناطق جنوبی و فعالان محیط زیست درباره‌ی صدمه‌ی این کشتی‌ها به صید سنتی مردم محلی و همچنین به گونه‌های متنوع ماهی‌ها و مرجان‌های بستر دریا هشدار داده‌اند.
با بالارفتن صدای اعتراضات به این نوع صید، مقامات اعلام کردند که حضور این کشتی‌ها در آب‌های جنوب ممنوع شده‌است. حالا همزمان با شدت گرفتن محدودیت سفر‌های بین شهری در اثر گسترش ویروس کرونا، باید دید که آیا مردم این جزیره توانسته‌اند دوباره به روش‌های سنتی ماهیگری برای امرار معاش اتکا کنند. عکاس میگوید در این جزیره با صیادی صحبت کرده است كه ماه‌ها نتوانسته ماهی‌های صید خودش را به سفره‌ی خانواده‌اش ببرد.
